Mihail Milev on 16-12-2025In the Elekit TU-8200R, the 12AU7 plays the role of a partner tube to the output stage, and its influence on the overall sound is clearly noticeable.
My experience here is limited to only a few variants of the 12AU7 / ECC82 family. Within this context, my personal preference once again settles on the EH 12AU7 Gold Pins.
To me, it does more than simply provide the appropriate signal to the output tubes. It feels naturally in sync with them, and with the system as a whole. Other new variants I have tried sounded detailed and precise, but ultimately too restrained for my taste. Another NOS ECC82 offered a beautiful midrange, yet this tended to dominate the presentation, giving the sound a distinctly “retro” character.
The EH 12AU7 Gold Pins brings weight and a sense of completeness to the sound. For me, it feels balanced, coherent, and musically convincing not as an isolated component, but as part of the entire amplifier.
